Underwear and Celebrities
66Superbowl Entertainment
My husband and I had surrounded ourselves with our favorite dips, chips and beverages. He was for the Patriots and I was for the Giants. We were having a great time watching the Superbowl game and of course the Superbowl Commercials. He works for Frito-Lay and they aired a commercial about a Great Dane who bribes the master of the house with Dorito's to keep quiet after he sees him burying the missing cat's ID tags. I thought that it was a cruel concept, poor kitty! My husband thought it was funny, but then actually agreed with me, and said the commercial will probably get negative feedback from PETA.
The game was exciting and some of the commercials were really funny. Then the David Beckham underwear commercial aired. What? Are you telling me that this guy has been reduced to selling underwear? The best soccer player in the history of the game? I know he endorses many products and has amassed a considerable fortune...but this??? I'm devastated!!! This exhibitionism brought him down a couple hundred points in my book. In my opinion THERE IS NO WAY AN UNDERWEAR AD, OF ANY KIND, IS CLASSY OR TASTEFUL! Yet I'm sure the first thing some people will do today, is run out and grab some of those Beckham trunks. What a bargain.
At least Madonna was very modestly dressed during the halftime show this year! I guess it works when the public demands change. We've had problems in the past with half time shows but our complaints registered. The half-time show has improved tremendously. OK, one of the dancers flipped the finger. I didn't hear about this until today. Thank goodness I missed it.
At any rate, we did enjoy Superbowl Sunday, best of all, I picked the winning team!
SHOULD BECKHAM DO UNDERWEAR COMMERCIALS?

Oh, now that is good! Very good!! I am surprised it is not already in the stores.
Please, please - start some sort of uprising about this topic. I've seen underwear ads that were obscene. I guess it all started (or hit a low spot) in the famous Calvin K. ad Madonna Badger created. Regardless, there are some things that should not be on TV or in magazines. Voted up and useful.
If you remember to thank the merchants who show respect for the human body by tastefully displaying the "poor taste" magazines, you've made your own small step in helping to slow the slide. Good points, Frannie Dee!
Celebrities sell more products than unknown people, unless they are cute little kids! It is all about the Benjamins. Put a fine, sexy male celebrity on women's underwear, and watch the stores that carry them sell out and get criticized for not having them in stock.
Interesting hub!

Hi frannie,
Great hub and wonderful point. I saw the commercial and thought is was a spoof. I agree this guy has many endorsements so what's with the cotton covers? I instantly thought, what guy is going to purchase a pair of underwear with someones name on it. If a gal saw these briefs, what would she think? I think we are still trying to get over Calvin's name on our under garments now this?
